Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah - Mark Meily, 2006

A l'origine, il s'agit d'une bande dessinée qui fait penser à Darna: ici un esthéticien avale une pierre magique et se transforme en super-héros qui latte la face aux forces du mal.

Regal Entertainment (ne me demandez pas qui c'est) en adapte un film...

Carlo Vergara’s greatest contribution to humanity is a superhero named Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah. Regal Entertainment has bought the rights for the film version of the graphic novel. However, the casting really stunned me – not because it was a great cast – but because it was miscast.

 

Ogie Alcasid will play Ada. Why? I would have been delighted if it was Ogie Diaz! Sure, Mr. Alcasid has played countless gay roles in his popular gag show, but isn’t it high time to give the gays their due? Minsan na nga lang magkaroon ng superhero na bading, sa tunay na lalaki pa mapupunta ang role.

 

John Lapus volunteered to play the lead character because, and I quote, “natatatkot ako na baka mababoy ang character ni Ada kapag artistang lalake ang gumanap.”

 

The role of Zsa Zsa will go to Rufa Mae Quinto whom I believe fits the role perfectly. I remember somebody suggesting Maureen Larazabal to play the wacky superhero. I have nothing against Maureen, but the planet women fighting babaeng bakla needs mega-star wattage. Her Boobaness simply has this much needed star power.

 

Equally important is the role of Didi – Ada’s best friend. Like Ada, the fabulous Didi is gay. Didi is no ordinary sidekick. He reminds me of Patrick Star; Spongebob’s crazy starfish friend who regularly steaks the show from our favorite invertebrate. This is primarily the reason why I have doubts with the casting (if the rumors are true) of Allan K. Didi is too precious to be given to the Eat Bulaga host. If Ada and Didi were women, then Ai-Ai delas Alas and Eugene Domingo would be perfect for the roles.

 

Cherie Gil. She is the only person that has the divine right to wear the deadly battle outfits of Queen Femina Suarestellar Baroux.

 

Alfred Vargas is Dodong. Why?

 

Ang Kagila-gilalas na Pakikipagsapalaran ni Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah is more than just a graphic novel. It is a beautiful story that deserves an equally beautiful film version. It needs to have a competent cast. The story soars because of its simplicity and honesty; let’s hope it marvels in the silver screen with the same qualities.

Kolossale finesse mise à part, Regal est une grosse boîte de production philippine qui produit pas mal de films fantastiques, on pouvait les trouver en VHS ces dernières années, mais depuis quelque temps ils ont opté pour le DVD, avec l'avantage de sous-titres en anglais (parfois, pas toujours).
